The fair

Thrift to Uplift was a sustainability fair at the British International College of Cairo on 2 March 2024, for Groupe Odyssey, the school's Paris-based group. A thrift market, a clothing bank and a runway built over the school pool, all around one idea: buying second-hand is good for the planet and for the people around you.

The film

The short film follows the students who plan the fair, and makes the case for thrift along the way. Luc Chatel, former French Minister of Education, appears in it. It took 1st place in Egypt at the British Council's Your World Film Competition 2024.

Before and after

A teaser came first, shot in the desert, set in a near future where the news is all bad. It keeps you guessing, then reveals the fair at the end. The recap covers the day itself: the market, the clothing bank and the runway.

The brief

A film for the Your World Film Competition 2024, under the theme Climate Crisis to Climate Action, made with the students of the British International College of Cairo.
