The film
Le Paris d’Orient is a short film about Cairo as the Paris of the Middle East. It opens on Downtown Cairo in 1960 and settles at Café Riche, where a group of friends plan their week across the city’s French places.
The story
Over coffee at Café Riche, the friends plan the days ahead: croissants at Paul, pastries at Miette, books at the Institut français, a night at the Sofitel on the Nile. Cairo, they decide, is the Paris of the Middle East.
The look
Café Riche is shot in sepia, the 1960s as a memory. The places they dream of visiting are in colour. The dialogue is in French, with English subtitles throughout.
