The idea
What would a school day look like through Wes Anderson's eyes? The film borrows his rules and turns them on the British International College of Cairo: students in the exact centre of the frame, walls of a single colour, everything seen straight on.
The film
It opens on a student sitting against a turquoise wall, then a peach one, before the title card: Day in the Life as a BICC Student. The day follows: the playground, the little fire station, police station and hospital where the youngest play, the library, the art room, a portrait projected over a student's face, a magnifying glass. It ends with a walk down a long corridor to The End.
The look
Symmetry, pastel colour and still, deadpan faces, the things Anderson is known for, set the frame for every shot. Short inserts of single objects, a yellow tyre on the grass, a row of recycling bins, a slide, keep the rhythm the way his do. Shot at the school and cut in Premiere Pro: 43 seconds, vertical.
